The Greatest Evil Act of the Twentieth Century

Once I studied in class and after all research I have done individually, I can understand better the meaning of the word “Holocaust.” At the beginning of this class I did not have enough information about the Holocaust; I just knew that Adolph Hitler was the main character of this massacre. Also, I saw a movie named Schindler's List. This movie helped to me a lot to understand even better what really happened during the Holocaust. I would like to mention some of the causes of the Holocaust and actual events that happened during the Holocaust.

The Holocaust was one of the most terrible events of the twentieth century. I really do not have an idea about the causes of the Holocaust, but many people openly believe it was because Jewish people were believed to have killed Jesus Christ. Also, others think it was because Germany, especially Adolph Hitler, wanted in their country only superior people than Jewish. Furthermore, one of the causes of the Holocaust was because some Germany and Hitler hated most Jews and they wanted Jewish people death. Therefore, Hitler was implanting racism against Jews people. Likewise, just like me, many people still do not understand why or how someone could hate so much people, as Adolph Hitler did. Another possible cause of the Holocaust was that Jews were more intelligent, educated and they knew how to live their lives well organized; as a result, some of the people of Germany did not like that and they decided to throw them out of Germany.

During the Holocaust many things happened. Approximately six million Jews were killed, including women and their children. It was not just Jewish people who were killed during the Holocaust. Homosexuals, some Catholics, some people of Germany and Jehovah’s Witnesses also were killed. Everything that happened during the Holocaust was thanks to the Nazis, who helped Hitler to kill the majority of the Jews. Something that is very important to mention about the events during the Holocaust was that the world knew what was happening with the Jews and they did not do anything to stop it. The Nazis are better known as perpetrators who came into Jewish’s houses and said that if the Jews would fallowed them they might live a better life. Then, they were put into concentration camps where many Jews died. The Nazis also killed Jewish people by themselves, just shooting at them. This massacre was very well organized. The Nazis first put the Jews to work for them and then they killed them. If you were a Jew and you decided not to work for them, they would kill you anyway. In addition, if the Nazis at that time knew that “Anyone descended from non-Aryan, especially Jewish, parents or grandparents. One parent or grandparent classifies the descendant as non-Aryan...especially if one parent or grandparent was of the Jewish faith,” they would kill him.

Those ideas about the causes of the Holocaust are clear to me, especially that Germany and Adolph Hitler wanted their society filled by Aryan people because Jews are not Aryan people; they are Semites. This also happened when Trujillo, a president of the Dominican Republic, killed many Haitians, just because he wanted Dominican people white. Additionally, I could not understand why the world did not do anything during the Holocaust if they knew it. Now there are countries that are apologizing for that. I from the bottom of my heart admire those people who survived during the Holocaust, especially Elsie V. who went into the concentration camps and she was very badly treated by the Nazis. She was very angry by these abuses. Therefore, she said to one of the members of the Nazis, “You have the devil on your forehead, you will go to hell.” As a result the man took his gun and hit her in her head that’s why she has a metal plate in her head today. She was able survive because of her faith in God. On the one hand, they were Nazis that they did not care about killing people. On the other hand, others cared about it. For that reason, they decided not to kill someone else. This is one of the main issues why Nazis did not stop that massacre because they were impotent. People say it happened because Nazis were afraid of Hitler. If they quit their job, then Hitler could kill them and their families.

In conclusion, the Holocaust was something terrible to mention. Also, it was a powerful phase of the history of humanity. During the Holocaust there were a lot of deaths. In addition, I do not have any idea why people kill others without a reason, just like Hitler and the Nazis did with the Jews. I honestly have a high regard for the Holocaust survivors, especially for Elsie V. When I read her story I found it very interesting and powerful because in it, she explains everything that happens to her without restrictions. Also, I call the Holocaust “The greatest evil act of the twentieth century” because the world knew what was happening with the Jews. However, they did not do anything about it.
