A comparison between Genesis and the Maya Creation Myth

There are many stories that talk about the creation of the earth. One of them is titled Genesis, which explains how humans were created. Another one is named the Maya creation myth. Genesis and the Maya creation myth have a lot of similarities and differences which are very important to mention. I would like to describe some of those similarities.

First of all, Genesis is a part of the Bible that explains how God created the humans. The Maya were an advanced people who lived in the area now known as Guatemala, Honduras, Belize, and the MexicanState of Yucatan. The Maya creation myth is from the Popol Vuh, the Mayan epic. Although, Genesis says that there is only one God who created the earth and humans with words, in the Maya creation myth story, it says that there are four Gods who created the human by working together. This means that the God of Genesis is very powerful, independent and perfect. However, the four Gods mentioned in the Maya creation myth had to try four times for the creation of the human. Additionally, in Genesis God created the man and the woman, but the Maya creation myth does not talk about a woman being created. Another difference that they have is that Genesis explains a lot of details that the Maya Creation Myth does not exist.

Some similarities which are very important to mention are that Genesis says that God created the man from the dust and in the Maya creation myth the four Gods created the man out of the flesh. I know that the dust comes from the earth which has a lot of substances, as the flesh has them. Another similarity is that Genesis says that nobody who is rich can enter heaven before a poor man. This is the same thing that the Maya creation myth mentions. For example, the Maya creation myth says that the rich man will be judged at his death on the basis of how he cared for the poor. Therefore, a rich man can not enter heaven unless he is brought there by a poor man.

In conclusion, both stories are very interesting and nobody can tell which one is true. However, they can believe in one of them. Genesis says that to be human you must come from God and believe in him. The Maya creation myth is a good story because it explains different ways that the four Gods tried to create the human. I sincerely believe that Genesis is a literal truth because it is a traditional story. I say that because my ancestors taught my grandmother that the story is true, and then my grandmother taught me about Genesis. In addition, between Genesis and the Maya creation myth story there are a lot of similarities and differences which are quite important to know because they can clarify something that you did not know before. For example, I did not know that the four Gods mentioned in the Maya creation myth, created one man out of the flesh.
