Jan Brewer of Arizona signed SB1070, the nation’s toughest bill on illegal immigration into law, also known as the Arizona’s Anti-immigrant law. The reason of this law is to deport all illegal immigrants back to their nation. This law affects all illegal immigrants of all others countries, but this law only seems to affect the Hispanic people; especially to Mexicans.
On one hand, I believe that the main reason of this law is to encourage immigrant non-resident to take a big step and decide to be a resident. Being a new resident cost a lot of money and effort. Therefore, the government would have a better budget and more benefit from these non-residents that are afraid to be deported; so they would ask for citizenship. For instance, in New York, where there’s a big percent of immigrants, a group of people started a new program that would take place on Monday, April 26, 2010. This program consists in getting more people to get their citizenships with the help of the City University of New York (CUNY) and the Daily News. On the other hand, people believe that the main reason of this law is to scare immigrant, especially Mexicans, so that they go back to their countries by themselves.
According to this law, police officers might ask people that they consider or seem to be an illegal immigrant for legal documents to be sure that they are legal to stay in the USA; if not, police officers have the right to force them to be deported. It would be very sad that a police officer ask a Hispanic veteran for legal documents after he has fought in Iraq representing United States of America or because he just felt proud to do it. At least this police officer would not ask for legal documents to the Hispanic veterans that have died fighting in Iraq. Furthermore, it would be annoying for those people that every police officer they see would ask them for legal documents. Now people wonder if this was the change Barack Obama promises to make. Remember Obama keeps saying, "Yes, we can."
